AIDENSFIELD

The village of Goathland, near Whitby, represents Aidensfield in the series. It is a typical moorland village, with most of its houses built between 1860 and 1930.

It is a very open area with wide grass verges where sheep wander down off the moor and decorate the place in an attractive way. It nestles in a little valley with the moors above it and has a tiny railway station on the steam line.

Due to Heartbeat’s success, Goathland is an even bigger tourist attraction than ever before!

Local shops are stocked full of Heartbeat wine and Greengrass fudge, as well as the usual t-shirts, caps and key-rings. The tourists that clutter the streets can sometimes make filming tricky, but the crew are more than used to coach-parties of star-spotters after nearly SIXTEEN years making the show!

The pub that plays the Aidensfield Arms is really named The Goathland Hotel. It can be found just up from the station on the left if you enter the village from the station end, or on the right hand side near the end of the village if you approach from the Pickering direction into Goathland . It is situated opposite the Aidensfield garage

This is the garage and funeral directors now run by Bernie Scipps in the show, but it originally belonged to Malcolm Mostyn the local mechanic. The sign - ‘Mostyn’s Garage and Funeral Directors’ is permanently on display outside the garage and all the filming still takes place on the actual site. The garage can be found opposite the Goathland Hotel.

The stores in Aidensfield include: 'Aidensfield Stores', a village store , the Moors outdoor Visitor Centre and of course the Post Office, plus tea rooms, all of which are found on the main street in Goathland.  This is Aidensfield Post Office the name Aidensfield stays up permanently) The Post Office was run by Blaketon during the later half of series 7 and throughout series 8.

locvillagehall.jpg

The village hall can be found in Goathland, just before the turn off to Beckhole But when you visit the site the hall looks surprisingly small fits in well with the character of the village

drspolicesuguar.jpg

This is the new combind police and doctors surgury   since the last police house got bombed.... rob walker converted the new house be fore he left the series   this is located in goathland as well  makes it easyer for filming

locchurch.jpg

The church used in the series is the church in Goathland. This can be found opposite the Mallyan Spout Hotel (where the cast sometimes stay) on the way into Goathland if you approach from the Pickering direction.

locclaudeshouse.jpg

This can be found coming from the Pickering direction on the right, leading into Goathland, just up from the church. From the outside it is surprising how recognisable it is - the garden outside with old farm machinery, sheds and caravans round the back make it look obviously like Claude’s place!. It is also a caravan site
